Filing for GI Bill test fee reimbursement

How to file, what to keep, and how retakes work.

← Back to vsgsolutions.org
Keep every receipt and your results. VA needs both to pay you back. The amount, forms and who is covered are on the free courses for veterans page; this page is only the filing steps.

Retakes and how many tests

VA pays for as many licensing and certification tests as you want to take, as long as you have remaining entitlement. It reimburses you even if you did not pass, and for a retake of the same test.

How to get it, step by step

  1. Check VA's test search tool. If your test is not listed, you can still apply.
  2. Take the test and keep the receipt for the testing fee.
  3. Get your test results, or a copy of your license or certification.
  4. Fill out VA Form 22-0803, Request for Reimbursement of Licensing or Certification Test Fees. VA offers an online tool and a paper form.
  5. Send it in with the receipt and results, through VA's QuickSubmit portal or by mail.
