TRICARE and health care

CHCBP: the 60-day health coverage bridge

Buy TRICARE Select-style coverage after TRICARE or TAMP ends, but only if you enroll inside 60 days.

← Back to vsgsolutions.org
Hard deadline: 60 days. Write the date down the day your TRICARE or TAMP coverage ends.

What it is

CHCBP is the Continued Health Care Benefit Program. It is a temporary plan you pay for. When you lose your TRICARE coverage, including coverage under the Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP), CHCBP can keep you covered. TRICARE says it provides the same coverage as TRICARE Select, including prescriptions.

Who qualifies

TRICARE also says the plan you had before must have been in place at least one day before you lost eligibility.

How long it lasts

What it costs (2026)

You pay a premium every quarter. TRICARE lists the 2026 quarterly premium at $2,103 for an individual and $5,339 for a family. The 2027 quarterly premium is listed at $2,280 individual and $5,741 family. Rates change every calendar year. Check TRICARE's premium page for the current figure before you send money.
